Eifukuji Temple
The large juniper trees tell the story of a long history. This is a temple dedicated to the remembrance of Masashige Kusunoki, a hero of the Nanbokucho period.
This is a temple of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji sect located in Tadaoka Town, Senboku District. It is said that in 1332, when Masashige Kusunoki raised an army at Chihayaakasaka on the orders of Emperor Go-Daigo, Kanetaka, who was a headman in Tadaoka, helped Masashige and holed up at Chihaya Castle. Masu. After Masashige was killed in battle in Minatogawa, Kobe, Kanetaka entered the Tendai sect of Buddhism and built this temple in order to mourn Masashige's body. Later, in 1498, Rennyo Shonin stopped by and joined the Jodo Shinshu sect. I was converted. The precincts are one of the ``100 Best Greens in Osaka'' and are home to five large juniper trees that are designated as Osaka Prefecture's natural monuments. The tallest tree is said to have been brought back from Mt. Ibuki in 1198 by Kenji Imai, a vassal of Kiso Yoshinaka, and transplanted there, and its long history can be seen in its annual rings.
