Domyoji Tenmangu Shrine
A famous plum blossom spot with about 800 plum trees of 80 varieties in full bloom
It was founded as the shrine for the Haji clan, who built the Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group, a registered World Heritage Site. It has a history of over 1,400 years. When the family name was changed from Haji to Sugawara, it became the shrine for the Sugawara clan, and Tenmangu Shrine was founded to enshrine Sugawara Michizane. The plum garden, which contains 800 plum trees of about 80 varieties, beloved by Michizane, is magnificent.
