Seasonal cuisine Mikaya (handmade udon experience)
Experience Japanese food culture by making udon, the source of energy
At a quaint Japanese restaurant on Koya Kaido, you can try your hand at making udon, one of Japan's three major noodles (ramen, soba, and udon). The only ingredients are domestic wheat, salt, and water. Under the careful and unique guidance of a famous chef, try your hand at the process of kneading, stepping on, stretching, and cutting the dough. You can have the udon noodles you make boiled right at the store, and while you wait for them to be boiled, you can try your hand at sake tasting. You'll be surprised at the different tastes of sake, such as sweet, classic, and dry. Smooth and chewy freshly made udon noodles can be enjoyed with the daily bonito soup stock. After completing the experience, you will receive a ``graduation certificate'' and Mikaya's original ``Choko''! We also recommend visiting the Koya Kaido area and the nearby ``sudare'' and ``toothpick'' museums to experience traditional Japanese crafts.
