Chayamachi area
Chayamachi is Osaka's Kita district, the best town for young people, with many restaurants, amusement shops, miscellaneous goods shops, and fashion shops. Most of the high-rise buildings, such as the long-standing Umeda Loft department store specializing in household goods, the Umeda Arts Theater, and the Mainichi Broadcasting System, have adopted the comprehensive design system and have public open spaces, which creates beautiful scenery. In recent years, following the opening of stylish restaurants and cafes under the elevated railway, NU CHAYAMACHI and others opened in 2005, making it a base for youth culture. Originally called "Sanbanmura," it was one of Osaka's most popular tourist destinations, bustling with teahouses such as Tsurunochaya, Haginochaya, and Kuruma-chaya. In addition, the road where the stone monument of Tsurunochaya stands is a key transportation point on the way from Koraibashi to Shimonoseki as the Saigoku Kaido, and there is a story that Sugawara no Michizane visited Tsunashiki Tenjin Shrine in the area on his way to Dazaifu.
