OSAKA DELICIOUS JOURNEYS 2019
This fall, the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau invited chefs from around the world to hold a "Rediscover the Charms of Osaka, the City of Food" event, a joint project with the Osaka Culture and Arts Festival and a food city branding project. In collaboration with Relais & Châteaux, a global gastronomy network, the event included a familiarization trip with top chefs from around the world, cooking demonstrations using ingredients from Osaka, seminars by top chefs, and a finale gala party at Miraiza Osaka Castle, where participants could enjoy creative menus created by the top chefs using ingredients from Osaka, spreading the food culture of Osaka, the city of food, to the world.
Period: October 15th (Tue) to 17th (Thu), 2019
What “Delicious Journeys” aims for
In 2013 (Heisei 25), "Washoku: Japanese traditional food culture" was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. This has led to a growing interest in "Japanese food" and "Japanese ingredients." The number one thing that foreign tourists look forward to before visiting Japan is "eating Japanese food" *1, and "Japanese food" *2 is ranked number one among foreigners' favorite foreign cuisine.
Osaka is known as the ``nation's kitchen'' and is the capital of ``kuidaore'', offering a wide variety of foods, from flour foods such as takoyaki and okonomiyaki, to seasonal Japanese cuisine served at kappo and restaurants, to cuisines from around the world. It is full of charm. It is increasingly recognized as the world's food capital. Food is also an important tourism resource for Osaka.
The Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau will further develop the "gastronomy tourism" concept, utilizing the potential of Osaka and the Kansai region's ingredients, food culture, and history, and work to promote Osaka as a "food capital" to the world. In cooperation with various gastronomy networks around the world, "Delicious Journeys 2019," held in partnership with Relais & Châteaux, is the first important step in this endeavor.
