Sasuke, a scissor blacksmith located in Sakai City, famous for its cutlery, has been making knives and scissors since the end of the Edo period, making use of gun manufacturing techniques. Yasuhiro Hirakawa, the fifth generation head of the family, had a solo exhibition at Atelier Oishi in France in 2002 (Versailles), was certified as a manufacturing master by Sakai City (for making scissors), won the Osaka Kogei Exhibition, Japan External Trade Organization Director's Award, and in 2003, Osaka Kogei. Winner of the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman's Award at the Shinten Exhibition In addition, cutlery such as scissors and knives are made from hard steel and soft metal, giving them sharpness and durability.
