“Osaka, the food capital” event to rediscover the charm (2019.10.15-17)
October 16, 2019 (Wednesday) Naniwa Black Cattle Farm Tour / Hannan City
Osaka-certified Kuroge Wagyu beef raised on Osaka's only farm. By crossing the bloodlines of [Tajiri lineage], [Ketaka lineage], and [Ito lineage], we introduced plain cattle whose blood is not too thick. The animals are fed hay, mainly rice straw, and their skeletons are carefully constructed to take full advantage of their ruminant nature. We keep 100 to 120 animals at any given time. All of the calves are female, and the calves are introduced when they are about 10 months old, and they are raised slowly and naturally in a cowshed in Hannan City for about 20 months or more to avoid stress. Aged 30 months or older, long-term fattening is performed before shipment.
Cow excrement will be fermented and turned into compost, which will be given to nearby vegetable farmers as well as farmers in Osaka and Wakayama prefectures. Osaka Fujimaru Wine provides grape dregs as feed for the Naniwa Kuro Cows, and composts the Naniwa Kuro Cows' dung and uses it as fertilizer for the farm.
