Osaka is located in the center of Honshu.
Osaka City was incorporated as a city in 1889, and currently has a population of approximately 2.72 million people and an area of approximately 225.21 square kilometers.
There are 43 municipalities within Osaka Prefecture, and the Osaka Prefectural Government Office and economic center are located within Osaka City.
Approximately 8.82 million people live in Osaka Prefecture, which covers an area of approximately 1,905 square kilometers. Although 7% of Japan's population is concentrated in Osaka Prefecture, it is actually the second-lowest prefecture in terms of area. It is the second largest city after Tokyo, with many people living in a small area. Furthermore, approximately 10% of foreigners residing in Japan live in Osaka.
