Sendan no Kibashi

The bridge also serves as a viewing point for historical buildings such as the Nakanoshima Library and the Central Public Hall.

This bridge is believed to have been built in the early Edo period to cross the Tosabori River to reach the warehouses on Nakanoshima. It is said that this name was given because there was a large sandalwood tree along the bridge. It remained a wooden bridge until 1885, but it was washed away by a major flood. However, it was decided that the Osaka Library (currently Nakanoshima Library) and Osaka City Hall would be constructed nearby, so the bridge was rebuilt in 1914 (it was later rebuilt in 1935 in 1935). The current bridge was rebuilt in 1985, and while preserving the image of the old bridge, the bridge surface was designed to harmonize with the historical buildings in the background, such as the Nakanoshima Library and Central Public Hall. It has a unique design. On display are a monument telling the origin of the bridge, a main pillar from the Taisho period, a bridge name plate from the previous bridge, and a relief of a Japanese chili pepper tree.
