It is listed as one of the 22 shrines in Wakae County, Kawachi Province, in the Jinmyocho (list of deities) of the Engishiki, published in 927 (Encho 5) during the Heian period, and since the Muromachi period it has prospered and been revered as the god of markets. During the Edo period, as the surrounding villages developed, it came to be revered by villagers as the god of the land, and had a vast shrine site that continued onto the right bank of the Nagase River. The shrine here, an ancient shrine listed in the Engishiki, was newly built in 1874 (Meiji 7), and was remodeled in 1991 (Heisei 3). The shrine grounds also include the auxiliary shrine Yasaka Shrine and the subordinate shrine Tokoyo Shrine, which are both enshrined within the grounds. The main hall of the auxiliary shrine Yasaka Shrine has been designated as a tangible cultural property of Higashiosaka City as it retains the shrine architectural style from the mid-Edo period.
