Midosuji Sculpture Street

Sculptures by famous domestic and international artists are displayed along Midosuji, Osaka's main street. It entertains passersby as an easy way to appreciate art.

Midosuji is Osaka's main street, stretching about 4km from Umeda to Namba. It was opened in 1937, with an eye on Osaka's development 100 years into the future. From the beginning, all electric wires were placed underground, about 800 ginkgo trees were planted, and the skyline of the surrounding buildings was limited to 30m, attracting attention as a beautiful main street. Currently, the skyline of the buildings has been relaxed to 50m, and commercial facilities and office buildings are lined up. In particular, in the Minami area, just to the east, the downtown areas of Shinsaibashi-suji and Ebisubashi-suji run parallel from north to south, and to the east and west, the office districts and fashion districts of Minami- Minamisemba and America-mura intersect like a checkerboard, making it a lively area. In recent years, 29 sculptures by famous artists from Japan and abroad, including Henry Moore, Auguste Rodin, famous for "The Thinker," and Kotaro Takamura, have been displayed along Midosuji, entertaining passersby.
