Itsukushima Shrine (Hirakata City)

To the right of the main shrine is the main shrine of Kasuga Shrine, which is a subsidiary shrine of Itsukushima Shrine. It was relocated from the original main shrine of Itsukushima Shrine when the former shrine of Kasuga Taisha in Nara was taken over as the main shrine of Itsukushima Shrine at the end of the Edo period.
To the right of the main hall is the main hall of Kasuga Shrine, a subordinate shrine of Itsukushima Shrine. The original main hall of Itsukushima Shrine was moved here during the late Edo period when the old Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara was taken over as the main hall of Itsukushima Shrine. The date of construction is unknown, but the architectural style suggests it dates from the mid to late Muromachi period. The structure is a one-bay nare-zukuri style with a cypress bark roof, and as it is close to Kyoto Prefecture, it has regional characteristics that are slightly different from those of southern Osaka Prefecture. The main hall of Kasuga Shrine, a subordinate shrine of Itsukushima Shrine, was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1978 (Showa 53).
