Gunsmith's house

Designated as a tangible cultural property by Sakai City.

The only remaining workshop and residence of a gunsmith from the Edo period in Japan. Designated a tangible cultural property by Sakai City.
Throughout the Edo period, the grounds and buildings expanded, and the main entrance now measures 17.5 ken (approximately 35 m) in size.
In recent years, over 20,000 ancient documents and other historical materials related to gun production during the Edo period have been discovered within the mansion.
In order to make these documents and this valuable building, which is a "real manufacturing space," available to the public, preservation and repair work has been carried out since fiscal year 2020 as a cultural property building, and it will be opened to the public as the "Gunsmith House (Inoue Sekiemon House, Machiya History Museum)" from March 2024.
In addition to exhibits of materials handed down through the family of gunsmith Inoue Sekiemon, there are also recreations of the shop room and blacksmith's workshop, as well as content that allows visitors to experience some of the work of a gunsmith.
You can learn about the actual manufacturing and sales of guns by Inoue Sekiemon.
