Abe Oji Shrine

This shrine is located to the south of Tennoji, and during the Heian period, when Kumano pilgrimage was popular, it was called the 4th Oji Shrine of the 99 Kumano Ojis (the order changed over time, and the current name is the 2nd Oji Shrine). ``Oji'' means a subsidiary shrine of Kumano Taisha in Wakayama Prefecture, and is a shrine built for rest and worship from a distance along the road from Kyoto to Kumano via Settsu and Izumi. It is said that it was originally founded by Emperor Nintoku. There is also a record that Kobo Daishi prayed for the suppression of an epidemic in 826, on the order of Emperor Junna, so the company is said to have benefits such as warding off evil spirits, good health, and recovery from illness. It is revered. There is Abe Seimei Shrine at the end of the shrine, and within the precincts there are five camphor trees and one enoki tree, which are designated as preserved trees by Osaka Prefecture.
